What are the common causes of inverter damage?

Common inverter faults are overvoltage, overload, overcurrent and overheating. Generally, they are also caused by high power supply voltage, high temperature, heavy load, dust and moisture. The inverter is an electronic product. Any damage to any component will cause the inverter to work abnormally. Electronic products have a certain lifespan and will age after long-term use.

Inverter service life and use environment

Inverters are industrial electronic equipment with a higher degree of durability. Domestic inverters can generally be used for 5-8 years. With a good use environment and proper maintenance, the overall life of the inverter is much longer than that of household appliances.

In chemical and plastic factories, there are corrosive gases and dust static electricity. If the inverter is not protected and professional inverters are not used, it is directly installed in the workshop without separate separation, which is often easy to damage. Dust and corrosion will directly damage the circuit board and the welding joints themselves, and the static electricity or poor insulation will directly cause the electronic components to break down and be damaged.

Some equipment vibrates very strongly, such as punching machines. In such occasions, inverters are used. If the inverter and equipment are installed randomly, they will also vibrate together. Over time, the inverter line connector will loosen, and the solder of the circuit board will also loosen due to vibration, causing cold solder joints and damage.

Some places are relatively humid, such as water supply and drainage workshops or humidification places, or outdoor use, which can easily cause inverter insulation breakdown and damage. If conditions permit, the inverter should be installed in a separate electrical cabinet with air conditioning and exhaust fans, which can reduce the probability of inverter damage.

Incorrect selection or improper use

The inverter is used to drive the motor to work. It is a power supply with variable frequency and voltage. It is necessary to select a suitable product according to the motor and load conditions.

Special inverters, such as elevator special inverters, ball mill special inverters, spinning special inverters, etc., are theoretically more capable of corresponding loads than ordinary inverters, can cope with the current use environment, and are not easy to break.

In applications that require frequent starting, the inverter needs to increase its capacity to avoid damage caused by excessive temperature, or add external braking units and braking resistors to avoid the impact caused by long-term braking.

Some applications do not require very short acceleration and deceleration time, and should be adjusted appropriately longer.

Some loads need to run at low speed, and the inverter needs to avoid working in the low frequency band. The actual operating frequency of the inverter can be increased by increasing the speed ratio, which can also extend the service life of the inverter.

In areas where lightning is frequent, good grounding and appropriate lightning protection devices need to be considered during the use of the inverter to avoid damage to the inverter by lightning.

In some areas, because the grid voltage fluctuates greatly or the load distance is relatively small, accessories such as line reactors, bus reactors and output filters should be considered.

The quality of inverter components

The service life of the inverter using big brand components will be much longer than that of the inverter using cheap components. SOWAKAM inverter uses Starpower brand IGBT modules and CECTN brand capacitors. The module has a high withstand voltage value and a stronger current overload capacity. Standardized PCBA production workshop and constant temperature component warehouse, well-designed PCB layout and software ensure stable motherboard quality and longer inverter service life.
